Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone’s cosy farming game Stardew Valley has changed the industry as a whole almost a decade ago, and there’s still more on the way.
Just months after announcing the end of Stardew updates to focus on its successor Haunted Chocolatier, Barone confirmed the upcoming 1.7 update at the first Symphony of Seasons concert before re-announcing the news on social media.
Unlike prior updates, Stardew Valley 1.7 will be developed with a new team which Barone will oversee to ensure that Haunted Chocolatier isn’t delayed “too much”. While it’s easy to get very excited about the future update, Barone wants players to keep their expectations in check.
Responding to fans upset at the lack of concrete details surrounding the update, Barone explained that he simply doesn’t want the fanbase to be swirled up in hype.
“More will come,” the indie developer said on Twitter. “I just don’t want too much hype at this point. It’s going to be a while before the update is ready”
Absolutely nothing is known about the contents of Stardew Valley 1.7. When the update was confirmed, Barone told fans there’s “”no release date, no estimate, but it’s happening”, and the developer is sticking to his word. While fans may speculate what areas of the game may be improved or expanded, there’s no way of knowing until Barone thinks it’s ready.
Alongside Stardew, Barone is still working on Haunted Chocolatier, a more action focused, non-farming game that still appears to have the same cosy feel as its predecessor.
There’s also no release date for Haunted Chocolatier either, although that game has been in some form of development for years now. Whatever the case, fans are excited for both projects, and it’s impossible for some fans to contain their hype. What’s important is that both projects are coming eventually, and they’re probably going to be worth the wait.
