Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters aren’t launching “in the near term”, but Fallout 3 is obviously launching first

With the rampant success of Amazonโ€™s Fallout Season 2, many gamers are itching at the bit to have something new to play in the video game series. As Fallout 5 sits on the backburner for development of Elder Scrolls 6, the Fallout fanbase only has years of additional Fallout 76 content to play through.

While it would be lovely to see another Fallout game release anytime soonโ€”an isometric spin-off would be niceโ€”Xbox reporter Jez Corden has attempted to reign fans in. An in-development Fallout 3 Remastered has been common knowledge for years now, but the renowned Xbox reporter claims that it is still quite a while away.

In a report on Windows Central, Corden explained that the โ€œlong-rumoured Fallout remakes arenโ€™t around the cornerโ€ with the reporter claiming that both remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in various stages of development.

While the reporter speculated that โ€œwe could see the Fallout 3 remaster at least this yearโ€, they also claimed that theyโ€™ve been informed both games โ€œarenโ€™t exactly โ€˜imminentโ€™, and you shouldnโ€™t expect them in the near termโ€.

With this said, Corden did confirm that Fallout 3 Remastered will release โ€œbefore New Vegasโ€. This makes sense as Fallout 3 followed the recently-released Oblivion Remastered in a leaked calendar of Xbox releases by the FTC.

In the leaked documents, Oblivion Remastered was scheduled to release in FY22, but was pushed to 2025 as many projects were heavily delayed due to COVID. (The listโ€™s release schedule started in 2020.) That same list put Fallout 3 Remastered in 2024 which could mean the project wonโ€™t release until 2027 at the earliest.

The list, which ends at FY24, does not mention Fallout New Vegas Remastered. However, following the massive boost in popularity to the Fallout franchise over the last few years, it would make sense to also remaster that title as well.

All in all, thereโ€™s still no concrete release date for either project, and they will both likely be shadow-drop releases following the success of Oblivion Remastered. While it does sting to have to wait so long for more Fallout, although these are re-runs of existing games, at least more is comingโ€ฆ eventually.
