Fortnite creators have been earning real money from their islands for years, and engagement payouts have turned map-making into a full-time job for some of them. Some creators have even made millions with their maps, showing how profitable this gig can be. Now, Epic Games is reportedly changing how a portion of those payouts are handled. According to a new leak, some creators will soon be paid in V-Bucks instead of cash.
The change is expected to affect small UEFN creators who do not set up a Tax and Payout Profile. Instead of receiving money, they will get Fortnite V-Bucks in a Developer Wallet, which can be spent in the game. This will not be permanent, as creators can still switch to standard payouts later.
Small Fortnite creators may be paid in V-Bucks
According to Hypex, the most reputable Fortnite leaker, the new system will cover creators who either do not or cannot complete a Tax and Payout Profile. These creators will still get their earnings, as the payouts will simply arrive as V-Bucks. From there, the currency can be used on cosmetics and other in-game purchases.
Creators who set up a profile at a later date will have two options. They can either convert their saved V-Bucks into money or keep them, although every payout after that point will permanently be in cash.
Fortnite creators are currently paid through engagement payouts, which require a completed Tax and Payout Profile. The process involves tax and banking information, and not every creator is able to get through it. Due to this, the leaked feature is great for a small number of creators.
It is important to note that Epic Games has not officially announced the change. However Hypex’s track record, the system is likely already in development. For now, the leaker hasn’t revealed when it could go live, although it may come in Season 4.
While waiting for an official announcemen, players can still earn free Fortnite V-Bucks for a limited time. Epic Games has also given island creators more ways to monetize their maps, which should further increase their payouts. Some of these involve the creation of Fortnite XP maps, which can be used to gain quick levels.
