Helldivers 2 has massively evolved since its initial release in 2024, but the game has also been marred with massive technical issues. After taking a significant break from content drops to release major fixes, Arrowhead has started regular content again with the upcoming release of the Python Commandos Warbond.
However, Arrowhead has been keen to note that the work is not done. While Helldivers 2 content is continuing just before the Christmas break, the game will also see “many more months” of patches that will aim to keep the game in a more stable shape.
Speaking on the Helldivers 2 Discord server, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani explained that there’s still a lot of work to be done behind-the-scenes to keep the game stable. However, future updates should no longer break the game as they have done for the past year.
“Things have improved,” the Arrowhead CEO explained. “There’s more work to be done. And the intent is that new releases don’t bork quality but build on it.”
Jorjani also hinted that balancing the game is becoming more difficult over time as Arrowhead continues to add more weapons, enemies and stratagems to the game. “[We [look at the] feel of weapons after systems are reworked,” they explained. “We also look at player data a bit. Trick is there are soooo many weapons now.”
“Beyond specific weapon changes being a system driven game there’s the whole domino effect of changing one system.” they continued. “What you perceive is weapon X is the combination of system A+B+C+D interacting. So sometimes it’s hard to track everything fully and share clearly with you all.”
Despite its issues over the past year, Helldivers 2 has still been one of the most fun co-op games around. With new processes in place to stop major updates from breaking the game, it should hopefully only get better as time goes on.
