NetEase’s Marvel Rivals has seen one hell of a year with a huge host of updates. Ending the year with a tease for the game’s upcoming release of Deadpool, who is currently shifting between roles in the game’s menus, the awesome multiplayer hero shooter already has one hell of an update on the horizon.
However, 2026 in general has been confirmed to be a huge year for Marvel Rivals with Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo explaining that this last year has just been “a warm-up period” for the still-evolving hero shooter.
Speaking to Den of Geek, the Marvel Rivals producer said: “2025 was more of a warm-up period for us. Next year, we’re going to have bigger plans. We’re not going to slow down.”
Koo also explained that NetEase and Marvel Games have already planned out content that extends past 2026 with updates for 2027 already pencilled into the game’s release structure. “We’ve already planned more than a year ahead,” he continued, “and I can’t wait for our players to see it.”
The producer continued to explain that the game’s rapid update pipeline—which has seen the game add PvE zombies modes and a large number of heroes—has caused Marvel to become increasingly interested in future updates.
“It’s a lot of hard work and it always feels different and exciting,” Koo said about major updates for the hero shooter. “This game is releasing new content every week. Even my own team comes in every day asking what’s new today. Everyone’s excited. They want to continue to make this happen. Everyone wants to make this the biggest game possible.”
At the time of writing, Marvel Rivals has survived a year with a colossal player base, something that many new online multiplayer games have struggled to do. While player numbers have substantially fallen since its behemoth launch, the game is still performing well with additional updates in the wings.
With the game’s upcoming New Year’s Eve event set to arrive in the game very shortly, the team at NetEase is still working hard on new content for the live-service title.
