Bethesda Game Studios and Xbox Game Studios have officially announced the subtitle for The Elder Scrolls VI. Officially titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, the upcoming open-world fantasy RPG still has no release date.

Revealed in a new YouTube video, the official name of the next mainline Elder Scrolls game has been a closely-guarded secret. However, as many have expected, the game is officially called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, referring to the capital of the Alik’r Desert region in Hammerfell.

The trailer also teases the Hammerfell setting as the main location for the upcoming RPG. Not only does the trailer show a titular Elder Scroll being uncovered in the desert sands, but the trailer also includes a quote that relates to the setting as well.

“The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate,” the quote reads. The quote is attributed to “Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206)”.

The usage of this quote also shows that the game is set sometime after 4E 206, after the events of Skyrim. As fans know, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was set in 4E 201. This means that Sentinel, as with every Elder Scrolls game before it, will have to follow-up on the events of its predecessor.

Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel will release. Additionally, it’s still unknown if the game will be a multi-platform release or if Xbox will keep the game tied to Xbox Series machines to sell more units.

As for the story of The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, that’s still being kept under wraps. At the time of writing, it’s unknown what the core conflict will be, but The Thalmor are expected to be a major part of the story. It’s also unknown whether the Imperial and Stormcloak conflict of Skyrim will be expanded on in this sequel.
