Owlcat’s two Warhammer 40,000 RPGs, the already-released Rogue Trader and the currently in-Alpha Dark Heresy, are both receiving brand-new companions.
While the last week has been filled with news regarding the massive sales success of Saber Interactive’s brilliant Space Marine 2, Owlcat has announced a new character for both of its CRPGs.
First and foremost, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader’s next character is coming alongside the game’s next DLC: The Infinite Museion. With the DLC, you’ll get access to Eogann Februs, the game’s second Tech-Priest character.
As for the Dark Heresy Alpha, if you’re currently playing the in-development, very early version of the Warhammer 40,000 RPG, you’ll be able to try out an early incarnation of Haymar Devos, a Catachanian guardsman who is essentially the lead of every 80s action movie rolled into one.
As a “Catachan Jungle Fighter”, Haymar is a fighter through and through, and uses stealth attacks and throwing knives to dispatch his foes. He’s a lean, mean, killing machine, and the exact type of man you need for the dirty, primal universe of Warhammer 40K.
Right now, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a fantastic CRPG, and one of my all-time favourites, but new DLCs always come with a warning. As with most Owlcat releases, the DLC will likely release in a rather buggy state, which will be improved after launch, but the core stories are always fantastic.
As for Dark Heresy, that game is currently in Alpha with each new update planned to let players help the developers identify gameplay issues and help shape the future of the game. While very early, it’s already shaping up well, and it’s clear that the game will be fantastic in the future. Although, it will take a while.
As for more Warhammer 40,000 video games, Saber Interactive has started work on Space Marine 3, although that isn’t expected for a few years yet. With that in mind, this year will see the release of the very long-awaited Dawn of War 4 which features the return of the original games’ sync-kill animation system.
