Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has hit a new milestone for the popular action game.
As Saber continues to craft new Operations for the second game as well as continue development on its years-away sequel, Space Marine 3, publisher Focus Home Interactive confirmed that the game is continuing to rise in players.
In a press release, Focus Home confirmed that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 “has now welcomed 12 million players”. The 40K action game was already the most successful Warhammer video game shortly after selling 4.5 million copies in its first month, but the game’s long tail has continued to bring in players.
It’s worth noting that 12 million players does not equal 12 million sales. In fact, the new player milestone comes after the game was made free with PlayStation Plus in March 2026 as well as available in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service earlier this year.
Nevertheless, Saber and Focus have thanked the millions of players that have jumped into the action game. “A couple years ago, we had great hopes for this project. Today, it has surpassed even our wildest dreams,” they said in a statement to fans. “Thank you twelve million times over.”
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has continued to see a wealth of support after launch with a large number of new missions, weapons, game modes, and even a brand-new class in the form of the recently released Techmarine. Additionally, Saber has released large-scale modding tools for the game with fans now able to craft their own maps and Operations with the same tools that the official developers use.
While development has started on Space Marine 3, Saber Interactive CFO Tim Willits confirmed that Space Marine 2’s post-launch content is far from over. “We actually just released a big update and it’s still going strong,” the CFO told IGN in a recent interview. “Were we at number four on the top sales? So it’s still doing great for us. And we just released a big update. And like World War Z, we’re still making content for that, while the team obviously works on Space Marine 3.”
Space Marine 2 has recently seen a major controversy with the release of its borked Voice Box DLC, but Saber quickly responded to fans with refunds and a promise to improve the poorly-received content. While some fans have reacted negatively to the game’s large amount of cosmetic DLC, the vast majority of players are seemingly happy with the game’s continued support since launch.
Judging by Saber’s support of World War Z, the game that inspired the use of Tyranids for Space Marine 2, the studio’s Warhammer title will likely see years of additional support. However, just like the prior title, Saber has not officially confirmed how long it will keep adding new content to the game.
