Saber Interactive has confirmed that refunds of the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Chapter Voice Pack DLC will be rolling out this month. After announcing plans to refund the controversial DLC last month, Saber has revealed how the DLC launched in such a scuffed state.
Released alongside the game’s long-awaited Techmarine Class update, the Voice Pack DLC allowed players to select new voices for their characters to use in Operations. However, the DLC did not feature mission-specific dialogue, instead reverting back to the default voice lines whenever mission critical information which broke immersion.
“We understand that many of you expected your chosen Chapter’s voice to be more complete,” game director Dmitriy Grigorenko told fans in a recent announcement. “That’s on us, we didn’t set the right expectations, and the result feels incomplete.”
Grigorenko explained that the DLC’s creation was botched by “many production constraints”. Alongside the availability of voice actors and localisation, the game director explained that the “necessity to keep updating voice packs when adding new Operations, forced us to make the voice pack as it stands currently, and the same constraints are not allowing us to ‘expand’ the voice pack by adding the missing lines”.
While players who purchased the DLC will be refunded, Saber is keeping the current Voice Packs as an option for all players, turning the controversial paid offering into a freebie for all players. However, as the feature becomes available for everyone, the team will also work to improve the experience in some easy, more cost effective ways.
Grigorenko confirmed that the team is “currently working on an option to disable replacement of missing level-specific VOs by Ultramarine characters” within PvE Operations. Additionally, the voice pack lines will also be made available for PvP modes which also reverted back to default voices when the DLC was installed.
“We still believe that expanding customisation, whether it’s how your Space Marine looks or sounds, is important for the game’s fantasy,” the game director said. “This is why we’ve decided to offer a refund to all owners of the DLC, and to make it free from now on. We are currently setting up the refund with platform owners. Refunds will start from early April.”
Alongside the in-development improvements to the game’s Voice Pack DLC, Saber is also working on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 Patch 13. This major patch will largely focus on improvements to Siege Mode with new features allowing for more purchasable items, a reworked difficulty curve for shorter, more intense missions, and more.
Additionally, Saber is in early development on the game’s sequel, Space Marine 3, which is not expected to release for multiple years. At the time of writing, very little is known about the upcoming sequel except for the fact that it will continue Titus’ story.
