Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 will be bigger and better than its predecessor, at least that’s what CCO Tim Willits is hoping for.

Currently in development at Saber Interactive, Space Marine 3 is likely still “years” away, but the game will be made on a more advanced version of the studio’s in-house SaberTech engine. In a discussion with IGN about the studio’s ongoing tech, Willits confirmed that there are key improvements that will be present in the next 40K game.

Specifically, Willits explained that all of the improvements the tech saw in the studio’s underwhelming but impressive Toxic Commando game will be present and improved again for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.

“You can see the bigger swarms, you can see the bigger areas, you can see the better AI,” the CCO said. Toxic Commando also supports vehicles with realistic driving and terrain deformation. This means that drivable vehicles would be possible in Space Marine 3, although Willits explains: “I’m not saying we’re going to have cars in Space Marine 3.”

Willits explained that the technology continues to evolve and allows Space Marine 3 to be bigger than its predecessor. Additionally, the Saber CCO explained that “3’s going great” and that “2’s been really successful, our DLCs been super successful”.

He continued: “People love the mods. It helps the team with experience, knowing what fans actually want, making sure that we adhere to the true Warhammer 40K universe franchise…. The success of Space Marine 2 has really made the team passionate about making sure that Space Marine 3 is even better. They feel that there’s this confidence and passion and vigour, and you can see it. When you talk to the team, they’re just in it.”

There is still no release date currently available for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, and Saber is still working on additional support of Space Marine 2 in the form of new operations, weapons, and more.

Space Marine 2 has been a colossal success for Saber, and for Games Workshop, which should result in an even bigger budget for its successor.
