Footage of unannounced multiplayer action RPG Star Wars: Magellan has been discovered following the game’s unfortunate cancellation.

In development since early 2021, Star Wars: Magellan was in development at Echtra Games for a number of years. Echtra Games is best known for the Diablo-like ARPG Torchlight 3, but this Star Wars title was a major step up in terms of budget and scale.

Discovered by MP1ST, a number of development materials were discovered, including video footage of the game in question. The third-person action RPG would’ve seen players create a character based on a number of classes including a Mandalorian and a Jedi.

Players would have had access to a number of different abilities with the Mandalorian able to fly across the air to deliver death from above and the Jedi able to make use of multiple force-based abilities. These abilities would be used in missions against hordes of enemies in order to earn loot, similar to games like Borderlands or Diablo.

In terms of environments, players would’ve visited key Star Wars locations, such as Coruscant, as well as new locales. While not confirmed, it appeared as if some of these locations would also serve as hub environments which players could explore outside of combat to discover new quests, stories, and collectibles.

Alongside the usual combat spiel, Star Wars: Magellan also featured an NPC Bond system that would’ve allowed players to create lasting bonds with characters. These bonds would’ve been tied into the game’s overarching storyline and would’ve allowed for multiple outcomes to some events depending on which characters you befriended or upset.

The Star Wars game was scrapped in 2025 alongside the closure of Echtra Games. The shutdown reportedly came down to a number of business political skirmishes that saw Zynga and Take-Two Interactive close the project and the studio. The game was planned to release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, but no potential release date is known.

Thankfully, there are a number of other Star Wars games in development at the time of writing to appease fans. XCOM-like tactics game Star Wars: Zero Company launches later this month with racing game Star Wars: Galactic Racer launching in October. Furthermore, Saber Interactive’s Knights of the Old Republic remake is still in the works alongside the third and final entry in Cal Kestis’ Star Wars: Jedi storyline.

Nevertheless, it is disappointing to see a promising title be kicked into an early grave. While we don’t know how good Star Wars: Magellan would’ve been, the scrapped ARPG would’ve been something fresh for the series. As a fan of looter-based RPGs, this could’ve scratched a good itch. Unfortunately, we’ll never get the chance to try it out.
