The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is not the only secret project in-development at CD Project RED. Set to release next year, CDPR has confirmed “other content” is currently slated to release sometime in 2026 as work continues on the new expansion.
Speaking in the CD Projekt financial call, which is available on YouTube, CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the original plan to launch during 2026. Nowakowski explained that this internal delay will help “to achieve the best possible result… which, in the end, frankly speaking, is the only thing that really matters”.
In the call, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz added that Songs of the Past is just one of CDPR’s “unannounced projects being in an advanced production stage”. These unannounced projects sit alongside The Witcher 4, The Witcher Remake, Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius and Project Hader. While not confirmed, this could hint at other late DLCs or updates for existing titles in active development at the studio.
However, Nielubowicz also teased that these projects are not as big content-wise as Songs of the Past. “We obviously have some other content at an advanced production phase as well,” he said. “And while it’s obviously not the same scale as the major expansion, we still plan to release it this year.”
Obviously, not confirmed, this could hint at another late update for Cyberpunk 2077. While the game’s 2.3 update was hinted at being the final major addition to the game, recent PS5 Pro patches and MacOS ports could mean that more content is on the way for game. However, that’s mere speculation.
As for CDPR’s The Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past was described as a “proper big expansion” for the game. Nowakowski explained that the new content will only be available on current-gen hardware, and it will be comparable to prior expansions in terms of scale.
“When it comes to the scope, I’d say it’s actually a bit closer to Blood and Wine,” the CEO said. “But this is super subjective. It really depends on how you’re going to play, what’s your playthrough, but we’re definitely making a proper big expansion is the message I would send out there.”
Furthermore, Nowakowski hinted that Songs of the Past will act as a “prologue” for The Witcher 4, “although it’s not a prologue in a verbatim way”. This means that the new expansion will likely hint at the direction for the next game without necessarily being a part of its story.
Finally, CD Projekt would not confirm what the price for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past will be. The game’s last expansion, Blood and Wine, launched at £15.99/$19.99. However, as development costs have climbed in the decade since that final expansion, it may cost more.
Of course, work is also ongoing on the studio’s next major releases. Cyberpunk 2 has seen additional developers join the project after hitting a team of 150 earlier this year. Furthermore, over 500 developers are currently working on The Witcher 4 while early production continues on multiplayer title Project Sirius and the mysterious Project Hadar.
