Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Monoco actor jokes he’ll be “filled with murderous rages” if he’s recast for the live-action film

Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is just one game on the like for a live-action film adaptation. In development alongside film adaptations of games like Death Stranding, the turn-based RPG is set for Hollywood.

While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was already filled with big-time screen actors like Charlie Cox and Andy Serkis, who Hollywood would likely be keen to see reprise their roles, many characters will likely be recast in the conversion from game to film.

Rich Keeble, the voice behind the game’s beloved Gestral companion Monoco, is one actor that would not be okay with being recast. Unlike characters like the teenage Maelle, who would have to be recast due to her actor being adult actor Jennifer English, Monoco is a unique beast with a very striking design that wouldn’t necessarily need a new actor.

While Keeble explains that he doesn’t “know anything about how that film is going on”, he also would be unhappy to be recast. The actor would “would love to play Monoco in any shape or form”, although they expect “they’re going to get famous people in to play the characters where possible”.

“Because Monoco is most likely to be CGI-ed or [motion-captured] or something – hopefully not AI, goodness me – I do like to think that maybe they could get me to do the voice from a studio in London,” the actor told Polygon.

“I invite every fan to boycott that film, unless I can voice Monoco, or I will be filled with murderous rages,” he joked. Although, he does hope that he will be able to pick the character back up again whenever the film adaptation does rear its head.

Right now, the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 film is in the very early stages of development with production company Story Kitchen. Known for their work on Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog films, the film house is also working on Amazon Prime’s live-action Life is Strange show alongside other releases based on video game IPs.

Unlike HBO’s Baldur’s Gate 3 show, it does appear that the original developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are involved with the upcoming movie, which could lead to some actors reprising their roles where appropriate.
