Fortnite just did something it almost never does: it lowered the price of a skin. Epic Games reduced the price of a Legendary skin, Shogun, by 25%, indicating that more discounts could be on the way. In the past, the game developer lowered prices of other cosmetics, like vehicles, but the price drop for skins is almost unheard of.

Earlier this year, Fortnite made V-Bucks more expensive. To offset this, Epic Games lowered the price of the Battle Pass, and may now be doing the same for skins. Shogun is the first skin to receive a massive discount, and possibly not the last.

Fortnite lowered the price of a skin by 25%

Shogun was originally released in November 2018. As a Legendary skin, the item cost 2,000 V-Bucks whenever it appeared in the Item Shop. Epic has released it 65 times, as the skin made its way back to the shop every year. However, the last shop appearance was different. Instead of the 2,000 V-Bucks price tag, Shogun cost 1,500 V-Bucks, 25% cheaper than ever before.

Epic hasn’t addressed this yet, but there is a good chance that the company will make Fortnite skins cheaper in the future. It’s no secret that Fortnite’s popularity has gone down, resulting in massive layoffs. Lower skin prices could boost sales while improving player sentiment.

If the Fortnite developer keeps Shogun priced at 1,500 V-Bucks, there is also a good chance that the players who purchased him for 2,000 V-Bucks will receive a refund. Fortnite has recently announced refunds for a couple of controversial items, allowing players to get their V-Bucks automatically.

Epic has made several changes to the skins over the past few years, but the prices have remained more or less the same. One of the biggest changes was the removal of rarities, which made sense. At the end of the day, even the cheapest skins released in 2026 are much more detailed than mid-tier skins from the early seasons of Fortnite.

Shogun only stayed in the Item Shop for a day and is no longer available for purchase. It will be interesting to track its return to the shop in the future, as players are hoping that his new price wasn’t just a bug. In the meantime, let’s hope that Epic will reduce the prices of more skins.

In the meantime, players who want to add more cosmetics can unlock a couple of free skins in Fortnite, as well as a free car. Furthermore, it’s easy to level up and unlock more cosmetics thanks to the best XP maps in Fortnite.
