Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 brought Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and Mega Man to the battle royale, yet the crossover sitting on its key art took almost a month to show up. The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab finally went live on September 17, adding Sora and three more characters to the island.
The launch ended a seven-month wait that started with a leak back in February. Epic Games released all four skins at once, as Sora, Kairi, Riku, and Roxas landed in the Item Shop together. The v42.20 update also dropped the Kingdom Key into the loot pool, making this more than a cosmetic collab.
When did the Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab start?
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab started on Thursday, September 17, alongside the v42.20 update. Epic Games did not make players wait for the usual evening shop rotation either, as the skins appeared at around 6 AM Eastern Time, right after the servers came back up.
Sora headlined the collab, and he had been hiding in plain sight for weeks. He was first spotted in the Fortnite Override key art before the season launched on August 20, although he did not appear in the season trailer. On September 13, Epic Games finally showed his in-game model in a short teaser in which the Kingdom Hearts hero picked up his Keyblade.

The base outfit is based on Sora’s design from Kingdom Hearts 2, and Epic added two more edit styles on top of it, one for his Kingdom Hearts 1 look and one for Kingdom Hearts 3. That made Sora the only character in the collab with alternate styles, which helps justify his higher price tag.
Sora was not the only Kingdom Hearts character to join Fortnite. Shortly after the teaser, the official Fortnite account posted four quotes from the series, each signed with a single letter: S, K, R, and R. Kairi, Riku, and Roxas all arrived with him, each modelled on their Kingdom Hearts 2 designs.
All Kingdom Hearts cosmetics and items that came to Fortnite
Epic Games sold the crossover across five bundles, as every character came with their own back bling, pickaxe, and LEGO Fortnite style. Here are all the Kingdom Hearts cosmetics and items that arrived in Fortnite, along with their Item Shop prices:
| Item | Type | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Kingdom Hearts Bundle | Bundle | 4,500 V-Bucks |
| Sora | Skin | 1,800 V-Bucks |
| Kairi | Skin | 1,600 V-Bucks |
| Riku | Skin | 1,600 V-Bucks |
| Roxas | Skin | 1,600 V-Bucks |
| Keyblade | Pickaxe and Back Bling | 800 V-Bucks |
| Destiny’s Embrace | Pickaxe and Back Bling | 800 V-Bucks |
| Soul Eater | Pickaxe and Back Bling | 800 V-Bucks |
| Oathkeeper & Oblivion | Pickaxe and Back Bling | 800 V-Bucks |
| Arpeggio | Pickaxe | 800 V-Bucks |
| Sea-Salt Ice Cream | Back Bling | 400 V-Bucks |
| Lil’ Gummi Ship | Emote | 500 V-Bucks |
| Keyblade Flourish | Emote | 300 V-Bucks |
| Shadow Steppers | Kicks | 1,000 V-Bucks |
| Dearly Beloved | Jam Track | 500 V-Bucks |
| The Other Promise | Jam Track | 500 V-Bucks |
| Gummi Ship | Car | 2,000 V-Bucks |
| Heartless | Vehicle Wheels | 400 V-Bucks |
The Kingdom Hearts Bundle packed all 20 cosmetics for 4,500 V-Bucks, which came out far cheaper than buying the four outfits on their own. However, it left out the Gummi Ship and the Heartless wheels, as Epic Games sold both of those separately.
It’s important to note that 4,500 V-Bucks put this level with the priciest bundle Epic has ever listed in Fortnite. The value was there for anyone who wanted the full Kingdom Hearts set, although players who only cared about Sora were better off spending 1,800 V-Bucks on his bundle alone. Epic Games also handed out the Sora skin for free through the Kingdom Hearts Cup on September 18, which softened the blow for competitive players.
The collab reached well past the Item Shop. The Kingdom Key landed in Battle Royale as a Mythic weapon that chains melee combos and calls down a bolt of lightning, while Sea Salt Ice Cream arrived as a consumable that restores health and shields for the user and nearby teammates.
Epic Games also put a heart-shaped moon over the island and added two Kingdom Hearts Overrides beneath it. The Recovery Override makes eliminated players drop healing orbs, while the Level Up Override spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key for every squad member at their current location.
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab was leaked a while ago
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab first surfaced in February, when leaker AdiraFNInfo claimed that it was in development. This leaker was eventually sued by Epic for leaking and revealing the company’s plans.
Initially, many players doubted the leak, as nothing appeared in the game for months. Things changed in June, when dataminers found a Gummi Ship anthem in Rocket League’s files, and Epic Games confirmed the Kingdom Key in August.
This timing also works well for Square Enix, as the Kingdom Hearts Collection launches on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 8. Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to follow in late 2027, so a Fortnite crossover is a good way to introduce Sora to a younger audience before then.
Sora was obtainable through a special cup, but players who missed it can still unlock a couple of free skins in Fortnite. Furthermore, Battle Pass cosmetics can be easily unlocked using the best XP maps in Fortnite.
