It seems that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might be getting even more content as the highly-popular 40K game continues on its third year.

While Space Marine 3 is currently in active development at Saber Interactive, the new game is seemingly still years away. However, due the massive success of the second entry, Saber has been able to continue supporting the third-person action game with new missions, classes, and more.

Right now, there are 13 playable Operations outside of the main campaign in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Just days ago, Saber revealed the game’s Year Three Battle Plan, a roadmap of content running until Q3 2027 that showed two more Operations are coming alongside more weapons, a new PvP mode, a new Apothecary class, a new Siege mode, and more.

In a further AMA, though, game director Dmitry Grigorenko responded to a fan asking for more “operations with boss fights for Chaos”. In response, the director said: “We have something interesting in progress, that is not listed in the Y3 roadmap. Too early to spoil the surprise.”

In another comment, Grigoreko teased that they are pushing for more Operations to be added to the game. With the two newly announced missions, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will have a total of 15 Operations when the roadmap ends in Q3 2027, but Grigorenko wants more.

When asked if there are currently any plans for more Operations, the director admitted there aren’t any, but they added: “let’s just say, that I will be happy only once SM2 will have 18-20 Operations”.

Also within the AMA, Grigorenko teased that there are more major optimisations coming to the game, especially as the game’s new Nintendo Switch 2 port will require some wizardry under-the-hood. “Every update bring[s] some optimisations,” the game director teased.

Elsewhere, the game director explained that there are still further changes that need to happen to Space Marine 2. For example, one of the game’s biggest issues since launch has been the fact that Chaos Marines are less fun to fight than Tyrannids, which the team is still working on.

“We understand that Chaos is more difficult to fight against Tyranids, yes,” Grigorenko said. “There will be some pass on this in the future. I don’t think it will be about bots being good vs Chaos specifically, though.”

While the team also works on the early development of Space Marine 3, which will offer larger-scale battles with smarter enemy AI, the developer doesn’t want to abandon the current game. After all, we still have no idea when the third game will even release, although Grigorenko is keen to avoid spoilers of the game at this point.
