Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will continue to force Chadley on us once again

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has its detractors, but almost anyone can admit that the games have their low point: Chadley. Unfortunately, the high-pitched, annoying Remake-exclusive battle simulator boy is definitely returning for the series’ final entry.

While Square Enix continues work on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirms that Chadley is still along for the ride. Already annoying in the series’ first entry, Chadley was given a much bigger, much more annoying role in the second game, Rebirth.

In an interview with Restart, Hamaguchi claimed “that many fans are fond of Chadley”, the exact opposite of what I expected. The director wouldn’t state whether or not fans will play as the overly-chatty, constantly-interrupting Shinra experiment, but I really, really hope he’s not.

Speaking to the website, thanks GR, Hamaguchi confirmed that he will be present for the upcoming third game. “Chadley will continue to play an important role even in the final instalment of the trilogy,” he confirmed.

Additionally, the character appears to be treated to some deeper story moments.”His strong curiosity and tendency to talk a bit too much – inherent traits that he’s aware of and somewhat self-conscious about – will be further explored in the third game, too,” the director said.

Hamaguchi explained that he does enjoy seeing the fanbase make fun of Chadley. However, the director also hopes players will “warmly follow how Chadley becomes involved in the story”. Hopefully, as the team strives to be as close to the original game’s plot as possible, the character won’t be inserted into major story beats.

As someone who adores the current Remake trilogy, as well as the original, Chadley is my least-favourite aspect of the modern FF7 games. Outside of some fun battle scenarios, the character is overly annoying, and was made even worse in Rebirth with the addition of his companion MAI.

Nevertheless, the inclusion of Chadley in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is completely unsurprising. Despite the complaints the annoying android character has received, it’s clear someone on the team has a deep affection for the virtual boy. (I hope he gets squished by a big rock.)

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will serve as the final entry in the ongoing Remake trilogy, but it may not be the end. While Square Enix isn’t planning additional FF7R console titles, the final entry may receive DLC expansions if players want more. This could mean that stories such as Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children or even Dirge of Cerberus (please, no) could be seen within the game.

There is currently no release date for the final FF7 Remake entry, although it is expected to be a multiplatform game on launch.
