Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6 is the white whale of gaming, alongside the soon-to-be-released GTA 6.
While the game didn’t show in the recent Xbox showcase, which housed the amazing-looking Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Bethesda RPG reportedly “looks amazing”.
That’s according to Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty, who revealed in an interview with Variety that he has played the open world RPG. Booty explained that the game wasn’t shown earlier this month as it simply wasn’t the “right moment”.
“I would say one of the more challenging balancing acts of someone in a job like mine is balancing that you want to go show the world all the cool stuff you’re working on, and you want to get them excited early, but we also know that we want to wait till the right moment,” Booty said.
The Xbox boss explained that The Elder Scrolls 6 needs to be shown off at its best to truly appease fans. “When you decide to show it, you want it to be the best you’ve got,” he said. “And also that when you show the game, you’re also giving them a promise of, hey, it’s coming soon.”
With this in mind, The Elder Scrolls 6 will likely only be shown off a few months away from release, similar to Fallout 4 and Starfield. And its release isn’t anytime soon.
Booty explained that, even with fans worrying, The Elder Scrolls 6 is shaping up well. “I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen ‘Elder Scrolls’ playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well,” he said. “And we’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”
Earlier this year, Bethesda boss Todd Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 has passed a “major milestone”. Built on a brand-new version of the studio’s Creation Engine, dubbed Creation Engine 3.0, the open-world RPG will be the studio’s first new fantasy RPG since 2011’s Skyrim. Yes, it’s been a long time coming.
Alongside development of ES6, Bethesda is also working on years of additional Starfield updates. Additionally, Fallout 76 still has years of content in the works, and remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are reportedly in development.
