Celebrities playing Fortnite is nothing new, as Epic Games’ battle royale has attracted actors, athletes and musicians for years. Ben Affleck is the latest name to join that list, and the Oscar winner has admitted that Fortnite matches against younger players rarely go his way.
The actor and director appeared on the New Heights podcast to promote his new Netflix thriller Animals, and the conversation quickly turned to gaming. He revealed that Fortnite skins inspired the costumes in the movie and that his son asked for $300 skins for Christmas.
Ben Affleck on Fortnite skins and losing to 12-year-old kids
Ben Affleck said he always plays games, including first-person shooters and sports titles like Madden and NBA 2K, so he considers himself a good player. However, 12-year-olds in Fortnite eliminate him right away and taunt him afterwards, which leads to arguments. โI donโt suck. Iโm a grown man,โ the actor jokingly said on the podcast.
The topic came up as the hosts asked about the kidsโ costumes in Animals. Affleck explained that his son is obsessed with Fortnite and called one skin “tough.” “Is that tough?” the actor asked. “Dude’s wearing a bunny hat, and he’s got a tutu on!” However, that random look became the inspiration for the costumes.

Skins also came up in a Christmas story. Ben Affleck said his son asked for Fortnite skins that cost $300, which were described to him as “limited edition.” The actor pushed back on the price, saying that they can only be used in the game. While some of the rarest Fortnite skins certainly cost that much, the $300 price tag is far from the norm.
Shooters are familiar territory for the actor, who is known to play Valorant. He supposedly also owns many cosmetics in the popular first-person shooter.
Fortunately, Epic also offers six Fortnite skins for free right now, so Affleck’s son can get them. Furthermore, Fortnite XP maps are great for leveling up and unlocking free cosmetics.
